Family Matters | Part 5: Walk Worthy

In Part 5 of Family Matters, Pastor Hazen Stevens crosses the great pivot of Ephesians: after three chapters of what God has done, Paul turns and says "walk worthy of the calling to which you have been called." Not to earn the fullness, but to live it out.

From the unity of one body and one Spirit to the gifts that equip the family to build itself in love, from putting on the new man to putting away the old, this message traces what the walk actually looks like when grace goes first: a life renewed from the inside, imitating God as dearly loved children.

Key Scriptures:

Ephesians 4:1-6, Ephesians 4:7-16, Ephesians 4:17-24, Ephesians 4:25-32, Ephesians 5:1-2

Main Points:

1. Ephesians pivots at 4:1 — the verbs of chapters 1-3 are what God has done; the verbs of 4-6 are the walk that flows out of it

2. Walk worthy: the walk flows out of the fullness, never in place of it

3. What human beings most need is love — people become whole inside a family where love is available

4. One body, one Spirit: unity holds the family; diversity of gifts builds it up in love

5. Put on the new man — renewal is drawn on by faith, not produced by effort

6. Put away falsehood, anger, theft, and corrupting talk — grace creates a new way of speaking and living

7. Become imitators of God as dearly loved children

The Call: put on the new self by faith, and choose one concrete, faith-filled act of love this week that demonstrates the walk.
